Drive Guardsman Pass Scenic Byway

Park City UTAre you in the mood for a drive? Ready to explore the area without the help of a tour guide? Enjoy the afternoon cruising one of Utah’s best scenic byways: Guardsman Pass. This backcountry route is just outside Park City, UT, making it easy for you to jump in your car and discover what Utah is really all about.

Guardsman Pass begins in Park City and can connect you to nearby Brighton or Midway. This drive is phenomenal, boasting pristine mountain views, wildflower fields, towering trees, and if you’re lucky, some local wildlife. Most of the byway is paved, but you will run across some gravel sections. From start to finish, the drive takes about an hour, but most people like to plan for two or three hours so they can stop and enjoy the sights. You can even pack a picnic lunch and make a day out of it.

Note that the Guardsman Pass Scenic Byway is best traveled during a nice summer day since it is not plowed during winter and rain storms can make driving dangerous. Much of the road is on steep mountainsides which makes for a lovely view, but you’ll want to drive carefully. Save the photo ops for when the car is in park. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get the perfect shot at many roadside viewing areas.
